NJR Clinician Feedback
Reports for 2018 are available from 3rd August 2018. Details of the most recent changes can be seen below*.
NJR Clinician Feedback is a resource available to all orthopaedic surgeons in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Isle of Man who undertake hip, knee, ankle, elbow and shoulder replacement surgery and are registered with the National Joint Registry (NJR).
NJR Clinician Feedback is designed to provide orthopaedic surgeons with data and information relating to the care that has been delivered both by them and on their behalf and it enables an analysis of data within the wider context of hospital, sector (NHS and Independent Healthcare), and national benchmarks. It also provides a means of plotting data within a statistical control chart (funnel plot) enabling surgeons to view trends apparent from the data held by the NJR.
The service is regularly updated. What data are available and what updates to the service can be found on the homepage for Clinician Feedback here.
NJR Clinician Feedback is a secure system and requires users to contact the NJR Service Desk (firstname.lastname@example.org) in order to obtain a password. A hospital email address must be used.

You are encouraged to download your report and use this as part of your appraisal.
This year there are a number of changes to the report*:
Changes to ‘Linked/Attributable [Joint] Revisions’ tables .
Tables now include the date of the linked primary and hospital at which it took place. Any new revisions appearing for the first time in your report are in emboldened text. Tables also include the number of primary procedures under observation, i.e. the number of linkable primaries. This number is shown alongside the table title
New Column for ‘Outcomes following Primary [Joint] Surgery (thermometer graphs)
A new column ‘Linkable Primaries’ has been added to the above indicators to show the number of primaries under observation, i.e. linkable primaries. The ‘Observed Events’ and ‘Expected Events’ columns have been swapped round.
New table showing revisions not included in the current report
Some revisions included in previous reports may not be included in your latest report. This may be because they have been attributed to another surgeon or they may have been placed into the Edit Stack and would not have been included when the data was cut. A new table showing the details of any revisions that have been included in a previous report but which are not in the latest report has been added immediately after the table showing the ‘Linked/Attributable [joint] Revisions’. Appendix 1 – amended title
The existing Appendix heading ‘Appendix 1: SRR Funnel Plots - [Joint]’ has been re-named: ‘Appendix 1: SRR Funnel Plots (as Consultant in Charge) - [Joint]’
New Appendix 2 - ‘Appendix 2: SRR Funnel Plots (as Lead Surgeon) – [Joint]
The funnel plots shown in Appendix 1 for Consultant in Charge are repeated in Appendix 2 showing your results as Lead Surgeon. Each category will show the number of primary procedures under observation, i.e. the number of linkable primaries
New Appendix 3 ’90 day SMR - [Joint]
A new appendix has been added to show the 5 year 90-day Standardised Mortality Ratio funnel plot. If there are no 90 day mortality events within the last five years, then the page will display the following text: ‘None Recorded.’
Chronology of Linked Revisions
A new table has been added to show, by year, the number of primary procedures carried out in that year which have been revised.
ODEP 13 Year Rating
ODEP have introduced a new 13 year rating. Numbers are currently insufficient to be reported separately and, therefore, have been included in the 10A/10A* reporting category.
New table - Linked/Attributable [Joint] Revision of Revisions from XXX linkable revision procedures’.
This table shows the same information as the ‘Linked/Attributable [Joint] Revisions’ tables where the start point is a revision procedure carried out by the consultant instead of a primary procedure. The table is looking for linked first and second revisions, irrespective of whether or not the first revision is linked to a primary procedure. Third revisions are not included in the calculation.
If you identify any errors with the data recorded within your report, these can be amended with the assistance of your NJR Regional Coordinator.
