The primary stakeholder for the NJR is the patient, and evidence from NJR data collected over the last 20 years has demonstrated continuing improvements in patient outcomes. Now having achieved the four millionth record this data continues to strengthen and be tangible and meaningful. Shared decision-making relies on this NJR evidence, as well as information and research outcomes being presented in a clear and understandable way. Patients with better understanding of their surgical procedure, their potential health benefits, and what will be happening to them are likely to be better prepared and to thereafter have better outcomes.

Wrightington Hospital’s Orthopaedic and Musculoskeletal Centre of Excellence has a longstanding legacy in joint replacement. Professor Sir John Charnley, who performed the world’s first total hip replacement here in 1960, established Wrightington as a pioneer in orthopaedic surgery and infection control. Today, that tradition of innovation continues to drive the hospital’s commitment to excellence. They also achieved Gold Award the NJR Quality Data Provider (QDP) Award Scheme in recognition of maintaining excellent data quality standards and their ongoing efforts for excellence in supporting patient safety standards through their compliance with the mandatory NJR data submission quality audit process.
