5-Year Strategic Plan 2026-2030

Planning the development of the next 5-Year Strategic Plan 2026-2030 has been ongoing since the beginning of the year, with the current 3-year NJR Strategic Plan due to complete at the end of 2025. We recognise that the next five years will be a period of substantial change, with innovative technologies such as digital/AI, orthopaedic industry evolution, wider NHS structural changes, long-term demographic changes, and greater international collaboration all shaping the environment around the NJR.

The Strategic Plan is an important document which sets out the vision, mission, and long-term ambition for the registry, providing a clear direction so that the NJR can continue with our work to sustain being recognised as a ‘global exemplar’ for implantable medical device registries. The plan also provides a road map which in turn shapes the NJR annual work plan, objectives, and associated key performance indicators to be achieved each year.

Members of the NJR management team were involved in coordinating and planning a consultation process which started on 10 June 2025, with the hosting of an exciting engagement day with representation from a broad range of our key stakeholders, including patients, NJR senior staff, regulators, industry leaders, professional orthopaedic bodies, NHSE executives, and clinicians. A total of 43 stakeholders attended the event for a day of lively discussion and reflection, which explored the role and strategy of the NJR and sought comments and ideas on themes and priorities that should underpin our 2026-2030 Strategic Plan. Outputs were captured from the day that will now shape the Strategic Plan. Over the summer, a number of the NJR management team will continue to lead work with colleagues to develop a draft Plan, and continue to engage and consult with stakeholders to refine it, before a final version is produced by the end of the year for approval of the NJR Board in January.
