NJR barcode reader facility

Scanning implant barcodes using a hospital handheld barcode reader avoids having to manually input data and helps to preserve data quality. The barcode reader facility enables hospitals to scan the barcodes that are found on component packaging and this automatically enters implant details onto the registry.
What barcodes are recognised?
The majority of barcodes from leading component suppliers are recognised. You will find that occasionally some supplier barcodes are not recognised and this may be because this is either an old or new component, or because barcode details for the implant are not available on the NJR. Where this occurs you will need to enter the data manually. If a component cannot be found using the barcode scan functionality, get in touch with the NJR who can resolve this.
The barcode scan functionality supports HIBC and GS1 barcode standards. Users can either scan the 1D barcode/s, or the QR code which is found on some component packaging. A handheld scanner will need to be compatible with a 2D data matrix to scan a QR code.
