Impact of the NJR Research Strategy

What changed in the updated strategy?

The principles of the strategy are now:

• We cease to require investigators to submit manuscripts for NJR Research Committee review prior to journal submission but continue to request that they include the approved NJR-acknowledgement wording for use of the data.

• Previously the NJR Research Committee assessed applications based on public benefit and methodology. The updated strategy looks at public benefit alone.

• We retained the principle of expert review, but that the application outcome will be an “advisory” process, rather than a discriminatory one.

• We have abandoned the exclusion principle of not having more than one concurrent data release on the same research question, even if this same topic is also concurrently being explored by the NJR.

The updated strategy enables applications to move more rapidly through the applications pipeline, so this has created a smoother, more efficient process experience for applicants.

We have not yet seen the impact of the strategy on the number of applications being received by the NJR (see figure left). The NJR Management Team are always exploring opportunities to enhance the promotion of the availability and utility of NJR data for potential researchers.
