National Joint Registry – Annual Report 2026

We are pleased to announce that we have just launched our 2026 Annual Report; our 23rd NJR report. The full published report, along with associated appendices, infographics and updated information on NJR activity and the work of our committees can be found on the NJR’s dedicated Annual Report website. The report also provides a summary of the work and progress of the registry, including an update on management and funding.

The aim of the NJR Annual Report is to increase the availability of evidence-based information in joint replacement surgery for all NJR stakeholders, by providing a year-on-year analysis of clinical activity and outcomes, alongside an even more wide ranging and up-to-date analyses of the outcomes of the many implant brands available.

With the purpose of improving patient outcomes following hip, knee, ankle, elbow, and shoulder replacement, the registry has now recorded well over 4.6 million procedures and having collected data since April 2003, the report includes analysis of data going back 23 years. You can also find smaller, easy to navigate, report versions online on the website, bespoke to each single joint type.

It is essential practice that as much good quality data as possible is captured by hospital teams, to enable the NJR to continue to measure and improve clinical outcomes and support patient safety. As a result of the increasing volume and quality of data, it is possible to make more accurate analysis available to all stakeholders and a key message is that clinical outcomes continually improve, as identified through the year-on-year reduction in the volume of joint revision surgery.

Submission of good quality data to the registry by hospital staff ensures that patients benefit from the long-term performance monitoring and analysis of both implant and surgical techniques. So we thank all hospital clinical and data staff for their continued support for the work of the NJR.
