NJR Connect: Data Services
The introduction of Multi-factor Authentication
Introduction of Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) for NJR Connect system access
You will be pleased to know that we are further developing NJR Connect – Data Services to enhance system access security with the introduction of multi-factor authentication.
As well as enabling the enhanced security of all your NJR data this will also:
• ensure compliance with NHS Data Security Protection Toolkit requirements.
• provide all system users with the reliability of a secure and seamless authentication experience.
• address any vulnerability issues related to identification and authentication failures
Once NJR Connect has been updated with this MFA functionality you will only be able to access the system using either:
- a code from an authentication app
- or a one-time password (OTP), which will be sent to you via email.
Steps of how to action both ways are detailed below, you only need to action your preferred method.
For both processes in order to access NJR Connect, you will first be asked to enable MFA.
If you require any assistance please contact the NJR Service Desk:

(Operational Monday to Friday 9:00 to 17:00)
Step one: enabling MFA – one time action
After successful validation of Username and Password, the system will redirect to the MFA set-up page. (see screenshot below)

Step two: selecting either MFA Authentication app or email OTP:
The user has the option to choose Authenticator App or Email OTP as their MFA. You do not need to action both, just select your preferred method.
Option: Enable MFA using Authentication App (You can download the authenticator from your usual app store).
On clicking the button “Enable MFA using Authentication App” the screen below is displayed to enable the user to scan the QR code setup.

After scanning the QR code and clicking the “Continue” button, the screen below will be displayed, asking the user to enter OTP code.

Once OTP authentication is successful the system will display the screen below confirming this. On clicking the “Continue” button the system will redirect to the page. e.g. Dashboard/Manage Accesspoint/Change password etc., as it does currently after sign-in.

Please note: if the user enters the wrong OTP code five times, the system will display the screen below and the user will be directed back to the Login page.

Option: Enable MFA using email OTP Authentication
If the user holds a valid email address, then the system will display the authentication screen as below, and also send the user an email with an OTP.

If the user enters the wrong OTP code five times, the system will display the screen below and the user will be re-directed to the Login page.

We feel that it is both important and reassuring to introduce MFA to enhance the security of your NJR registry data. Should you experience any difficulties with enabling this new system authentication process, please get in touch with the NJR Service Desk (details as above).
