Developments in our NJR performance activity

Aligning with our Accountability and Transparency Model, surgeons and hospitals identified as having some performance challenges have recently been contacted, to enable the NJR to provide support to address these.

Alongside this regular NJR Surgical Performance Committee and Implant Scrutiny Committee meetings are held to review and consider implant, surgeon and hospital performance outcomes.

The NJR’s Data Quality Audit is an annual activity that has been running since 2024. The audit retrospectively enables a check on the quality of the data within the registry for all hospitals that add procedures. As in previous years, hospitals who had completed their audit by 30 September 2025 and achieved our stringent targets, qualified for the NJR Data Quality Provider award. We have also recently conducted a joint-specific special audit for shoulder procedures, to retrospectively check historical records for omissions and inaccuracies in the registry – and have thereby improved the volume and quality of shoulder joint replacement data. As a result of the audit, 4,490 additional shoulder procedures were added.
