The National Joint Registry (NJR) Quality Data Provider Scheme awards programme was devised some years ago to support hospitals to collaboratively enable public recognition for the achievement of standards of excellence in the NJR annual data quality audit. Having reviewed the success of the programme two years ago it was decided that we could further motivate hospitals to achieve more, by creating a new three-tier system of gold, silver and bronze awards, with associated award-level targets.
We award certificates annually to those hospitals who have met those stringent targets – and we communicate regularly throughout the audit to support and encourage all hospital teams to continuously work hard on their audit, to strive for the best level they can aim for, as we know those who lose sight of the audit timings often perform the worst.
Awards made to hospitals during 2025
We are delighted to share that we have awarded an impressive 296 gold, 39 silver and 16 bronze certificates this year!
We know that meeting our targets requires a strong team effort, department-wide – and these awards are also a way for us to thank all hospital staff who have worked hard to achieve these compliance targets. Qualifying hospital teams receive our award certificate to proudly display and we also support them in their activity to share the news with their regional press and on social media channels. We add their award status emblem to our Surgeon and Hospital Profile website, which is regularly used by patients to search information on both their local hospital volumes and about the consultant surgeons who work in these.
The NJR’s audit and awards process in turn enhances and protects and patient safety and ultimately improves patient outcomes, through our data analysis activity and supported research programme.
