NJR refreshes data on the Surgeon and Hospital Profile website

The NJR Surgeon and Hospital Profile website has been refreshed today with data for FY2025/26. Patients can look up information on the number of joint replacements performed by consultant surgeons and hospitals, across both the NHS and independent sector. We provide this information to enable patients and the public to be more informed when considering their treatment options and to also support shared decision-making.

Using the website functionality patients and the public can:

• search for consultant surgeons who have carried out hip, knee, ankle, elbow, or shoulder replacement surgery, in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, and/or the Channel Islands. 
• explore information about the hospitals where these procedures are performed.
• view details about a surgeon’s recent experience, including the number of hip, knee, ankle, elbow, and/or shoulder replacement procedures they have carried out since 2023.

Having access to this information can support patients in:

• learning more about the surgeon who may be treating them.
• comparing hospitals that provide joint replacement surgery.
• preparing questions to discuss with their healthcare team.
• feeling more informed and confident when being involved in shared decision-making about their care and treatment options.

The website data is refreshed annually every summer. We are also currently reviewing the website with the aim of improving functionality and accessibility and plan to introduce some changes next year.
