NJR at the Pre-Operative Association Annual Conference 2011

12 December 2011

Following November's Pre-Operative Association (POA) Annual Conference at the East Midlands Conference Centre NJR Regional Co-ordinators have highlighted the importance of the services provided by pre-assessment teams.

The Nottingham event saw NJR Regional Co-ordinators (RCs) Marian Gibson and Sue Campey attend as exhibitors. "Pre-assessment teams play a vital role in the success of the NJR as, in the majority of hospitals, pre-assessment is where patients are asked to consent to their details being held on the NJR," said London and Essex RC Campey. "Patient consent is vitally important as its this combination of information that allows the registry to help surgeons choose the best artificial joints, improve patient safety as well as provide performance information to surgeons, hospitals and manufacturers."

Central England RC Gibson added: "Delegates came from all over Britain and represented disciplines including pre-assessment nurses, anaesthetists, pain control specialists and hospital managers. We had lots of visitors to the NJR stand and it was fantastic to share NJR news and explain to pre-assessment teams the value of the contribution they make to our work. We need their support to drive forward better care for joint replacement patients."

The NJR will be also be exhibiting at the POA conference next year, to be held at the Royal College of Surgeons on 15 November 2012.
