The NJR S-Predict tool supports shared decision-making between patients and surgeons by providing information about the risks around shoulder replacement surgery.
The tool uses a few common details, including age, sex and past medical history, entered either by yourself or your doctor, to estimate your chances of experiencing an adverse outcome within 90 days of your surgery.
The NJR S-Predict tool uses data from the NJR and was designed by researchers from the University of Oxford, the University of Bristol and the University of Copenhagen, and has demonstrated the ability to accurately predict many patients’ estimated risk.
The tool would not be possible without the records of over 40,000 people who consented to have their outcome data shared with the NJR. Their data powers the design of innovative tools like this, empowering patients with easy-to-access information regarding their replacement surgery they can discuss with their doctors to enhance shared decision-making.
As a patient you should not use this tool as a substitute for an expert medical opinion. This tool can be used on your own, however we strongly recommend you discuss the results with your doctor.
Using the tool
Using data entered by yourself or your doctor, the tool gives you your expected risk of serious medical complication requiring hospitalisation following a hospital admission.
