Refreshing our NJR Surgeon and Hospital Profile website

The NJR Surgeon and Hospital Profile website is a key resource for patients and the public who have an interest in joint replacement surgery. The search function enables site visitors to look up any surgeon who has performed hip, knee, ankle, elbow or shoulder replacements within the last three years, or any hospital where they are performed, across both the NHS and independent sector. Updated annually each January, the website provides refreshed outcome data, drawn from the previous three-year period.

Work is currently in progress to update and enhance the website, with a focus on improving usability and overall experience for patients looking for joint surgery information. We expect the first changes to be completed in summer 2026, with further changes planned for 2027. We plan to further involve NJR Patient Network members in these developments.

Visitors can explore surgeons’ recent surgical practice online, including the number of procedures they have carried out for each joint type. Searches can be carried out by surgeon or by hospital. Each surgeon profile includes details such as, the hospitals where the surgeon operates, the number of primary and revision procedures completed over one and three years, and 90-day mortality outcomes, for hip and knee surgeries – and hospital-level information is also available to look at. The site also highlights the quality of procedure data submitted by each hospital, though the presence of their recent NJR award emblem.
