NJR Consultant Level Reports (CLRs) and Annual Clinical Reports (ACRs) 2024

The initial NJR reports (ACR’s and CLR’s) published last week have included elements that required some adjustment. Updated ACR reports will be re-released on 6 December 2024. The CLR/SLR reports will also be reissued with some adjustments and be available online from 17 December 2024.

The changes that will be made in the re-release of these NJR reports are listed below:

Annual Clinical Reports

• An explanatory note has been added detailing that hip hemiarthroplasty procedures are included as a primary hip procedure and are included in the activity counts in sections 1, 2, and 8. Hemiarthroplasty procedures are excluded from outcomes analysis and so will not affect mortality or revision rates or funnel plot positions in the ‘Indicator Summary’ section and sections 3, 4, and 5.

• The thermometer plots have been reversed for indicators 1-3 in the indicator summary section to reflect the labels.

• The charts and tables in sections 8 (hip implant usage), 9 (knee implant usage) and 10 (shoulder implant usage) that relate to reporting of ODEP ratings have been removed. This is because the underlying data that is provided by ODEP may not include all devices within a range, and so may be difficult to interpret.

• An update has been made to the table of consultants who have undertaken less than twelve unicondylar knee replacements in either of the last two years to reflect a surgeon’s whole practice, rather than only their activity at the trust that the ACR relates to.

Consultant Level Reports

• A bug has been fixed which had resulted in the under-reporting of revision hip, knee and shoulder activity in the sections: ‘Hips recorded activity’, ‘Knees recorded activity’ and ‘Shoulders recorded activity’

• An explanatory note has been added detailing that hip hemiarthroplasty procedures are included as a primary hip procedure and are included in the activity counts in the sections ‘Organisation Summary’, ‘Hips – Recorded Activity’, ‘Hips – Patient Profile’, and ‘Hip -Revision’.  Hemiarthroplasty procedures are excluded from outcomes analysis and so will not affect mortality or revision rates or funnel plot position in the section ‘Outcomes following Primary Hip Surgery’ and in the appendices.
  
  
• The ‘Construct usage by ODEP Rating’ chart and tables from sections ‘Hips – Implant Usage’, ‘Knees – Implant Usage’ and ‘Shoulders – Implant Usage’ have been removed. This is because the underlying data that is provided by ODEP may not include all devices within a range, and so may be difficult to interpret.
