NJR Annual Clinical Reports (ACRs) – Financial Year 2023/24

The NJR Connect – Data Services reporting system presents hospital management staff with a range of reports to give a thorough overview of key indicators of their hospital’s performance in joint replacement. This has always been presented in an Annual Clinical Report (ACR) and this year’s ACRs will be available online from today, 14 November 2024.

The ACRs use NJR data for the most recent financial year and cover:

Indicators of data quality: rates of compliance, patient consent and linkability.
Hip and knee replacement outcomes data (funnel plots), for revision for all units and surgeons (anonymised), across procedure types.
Unit outcomes data for hip and knee replacement (funnel plots) for mortality.

This year’s report also includes:

Inclusion criteria
MDSv8 re-operations (procedures entered on the RO form) are not included in the report.
NJR Data Quality Audit
This section has been re-written to take data from the annual data quality audit tables. It will be a rolling three-year report showing the ‘RAG’ status for each of the three audit years shown.
Orthopaedic Data Evaluation Panel (ODEP) reporting
This report section has been re-instated following changes to the method used by ODEP to rate hip and knee constructs.

Having collected data since April 2003, with the aim of improving patient outcomes following hip, knee, ankle, elbow, and shoulder replacement, the registry now has over 4 million patient procedures recorded. Submission of good quality data to the NJR ensures patients benefit from the long-term performance monitoring of both implant and surgical techniques.
